First snow of the season

17 December 2009, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

Like much of the country, we had our first snow of the winter today. It started shortly after I arrived at the office and had turned to slush by the time I got out, so I don't have a picture of the snow.

Instead, I have a picture of an empty shop on a corner. That shop used to be a Globespan travel agency. The shop closed a long time ago and Globespan itself has now gone bust. It's always sad when a company collapses with job losses and all that, but in this case I have to say good riddance. We only travelled with Globespan once and it was not an experience to be repeated.

If I were the ranting type, I would now expend many words on airlines and such like. But I'm not. I shall leave that to those who think that ranting in public is funny and/or clever (which, in all fairness, it sometimes is). Instesad, I shall sit and enjoy the fact that it's almost the weekend :-)

  1. NIce shot, with a tale of it's own. Shame about the 800 jobs that have gone.

  2. Snow here too today. Guess it's going to be a cold Christmas for those folks.

  3. Shame about the job losses. The slush and wet streets don't look too good either. Here we seem to be in the only place in Europe without snow! It is very cold, though.

  4. Bloody chilly on the Tyne too....went round to the corner shop and came back frozen to the marrow, and it's only about 50 yds! But I've still got a job....though there's yet another 'review' underway....shouldn't get too complacent...
    Still, it's nearly christmas.....

  5. I feel for those people that lost their jobs - though I won't miss Globespan either. This is a good picture of the snow that wasn't anymore... Nearly that time :-)

  6. What a shame that no-one's taken the shop, it looks like it's in a fairly good position...
