30 January 2010. Sick Imp

30 January 2010, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

It has been an exceedingly dull week. The main excitement has been the announcement of the iPad and the realisation that Imp needs one. Yes, it's just a giant iPod Touch, but being a giant iPod Touch means that it's a lot less easy to lose than a regular iPod Touch. Which is quite important for some people... (She managed to find it after a few hours searching, but the lesson had already become clear.)

Meanwhile, she has developed a stinking cold. Poor thing :-(

25 January 2010. Gone

25 January 2010, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

On Friday afternoon that was a branch of the Bank of Scotland. This morning it wasn't. I can't recall ever going inside, but there were two very convenient and popular cash machines outside...

I'm glad Monday is out of the way.

24 January 2010. Pond

Another lovely weekend which went far too quickly. If you've looked at Imp's blog you will already know what we did.

Here are a couple more pics of my favourite small person :-)

17 January 2010. Time to face their demons

17 January 2010, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

I've been trying to face my demons ever since I saw this, but I can't find them. Strange. I'm sure I left them round here somewhere.

So ends another lovely relaxing Glasgow weekend :-)

13 January 2010. No entry

I didn't want to go in there anyway.

The little chap's pose reminded me of this lot...

11 January 2010. The "missing word" round.

11 January 2010, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

Edge.

I have clearly missed my vocation as a graffiti proof-reader. At least the graffitist didn't forget the obligatory representation of male genitalia. Though I hope for his sake that it wasn't a genital self-portrait.

Returning to yesterday's blog, I googled O. A. Goll and found this. Not only does it show us the inside of the shop (which looks every bit as scary as the outside), it also tells us that Mr Goll's first name was, splendidly, Otto. Which in turn suggests that he was probably German. I think he missed his vocation as a Bond villain. It also tells us that the shop has been there for even longer than I had guessed, so we can assume that Herr Goll has by now made his way to the great salon in the sky. Either that or he's the world's oldest hairdresser.

10 January 2010. Thaw

10 January 2010_1, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

It was so good to walk along the street without being afraid that I would end up on my arse. It's still cold and there's still a smattering of snow and slush, but things are definitely moving in the right direction...

This next shot is a document...

10 January 2010_2

To the left, O. A. Goll, Hairdresser. The scariest-looking hairdresser I have ever seen. It has been there for as long as I can remember, it looks like it has been there for 50 years, maybe it has... I have never seen anyone going in there and I have never seen anyone coming out. And that's an odd name: O. A. Goll. It sounds scary. And what does the "O" stand for?

To the right, Sergio Tosoratti, Men's Tailoring, Dressmaking and Alterations. So is that Men's Dressmaking? Sr Tosoratti has also had an establishment round here for as long as I can remember, though his shop used to be a bit further up the road. I can't recall anyone ever going in there either, or coming out.

Together, they make a fine pair of odd shops.

08 January 2010. Pretty Castle

The Castle was looking pretty and it's the weekend! Now all we need is a heatwave...

07 January 2010. Fire exit

07 January 2010, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

If there's a fire, I expect that the wee fella on the left will turn round and run in the opposite direction. Mind you, if I saw a fire just now, I'd run towards it. No more snow today, but it ain't getting any warmer. Never mind, it's nearly the weekend :-)

Grit!

06 January 2010, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

The Council have finally deployed the Sidewalk Traction Enhancement Executives. Which is to say that they've dumped a load of grit on the pavement. About bloody time too. There has been a pretty much constant covering of snow and/or ice since before Christmas. Now, if they could only do something about the temperature...

Nothing else to report today... but yesterday I read a story about an Australian athlete (female) who had had her implants removed after discovering that running was easier without them... and she also decided that she should re-marry the husband she had dumped a couple of years ago... the only problem with this being that their divorce proceedings had gone past the point of no return but had not yet been finalised, so they would have to wait for the divorce to become final before getting married again otherwise they would presumably be committing bigamy with each other... She may be a good runner, but I think she has to work on her decision-making... Here's the link

The weekend approacheth!

03 January 2010 - Mind the gap

03 January 2010_10, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

Yesterday was the first time in over a year that I haven't posted a photograph. I survived. There is life after the picture-a-day thing :-)

I've made up for it today - there are plenty on Flickr. We took a little walk to the park. I think it's the first time I've seen the pond frozen over. The temptation to walk on it was great, but we resisted... Unlike some people. Mind you, I'm not sure I would have been terribly happy if this little girl had been my daughter...

03 January 2010_13

We shall be spending the evening in the warmth. I can't finish without posting another shot of you know who :-)

01 January 2010. Is it summer yet?

01 January 2010 - Portobello, originally uploaded by sleepyduck.

We weren't the only idiots who thought that a trip to Portobello would be a good idea.

The snow and ice have pretty much all gone... and the forecast says they're coming back again tomorrow. Happy New Year and all that :-)
