It was so good to walk along the street without being afraid that I would end up on my arse. It's still cold and there's still a smattering of snow and slush, but things are definitely moving in the right direction...
This next shot is a document...
To the left, O. A. Goll, Hairdresser. The scariest-looking hairdresser I have ever seen. It has been there for as long as I can remember, it looks like it has been there for 50 years, maybe it has... I have never seen anyone going in there and I have never seen anyone coming out. And that's an odd name: O. A. Goll. It sounds scary. And what does the "O" stand for?
To the right, Sergio Tosoratti, Men's Tailoring, Dressmaking and Alterations. So is that Men's Dressmaking? Sr Tosoratti has also had an establishment round here for as long as I can remember, though his shop used to be a bit further up the road. I can't recall anyone ever going in there either, or coming out.
Together, they make a fine pair of odd shops.

I love the top image. I like to think that the other one has an example of men's tailoring for the new man ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the bottom one and the story!
ReplyDeleteThe snow is thawing here to, many tears of sadness but I guess as No1 daughter has AS exams on Tuesday she needs to be able to get to school.
Oswald Albert Goll I'm guessing! But what a strange surname.
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe men's alterations too, which is even odder! A strange couple of shops - 'ar goll' means 'lost' in Welsh ... maybe if you go in there you get lost? The first image is great - busy and warm to celebrate the thaw.
