Still annoyed about the shenanigans over at the other place. The stupid thing is that it's blatantly obvious what they're doing and why they're doing it: they're building up to a sale and they don't want there to be anything that's at all controversial or that might expose them to litigation. So why on earth can't they be, dare I say it, candid about this? Then everyone would know where they stood and there would be none of the nastiness. All they need are a couple of simple rules:
We accept - photographs of kittens; photographs of sunsets; photographs of water droplets; photographs of babies; photographs which mock fat people; posts which insult foreigners (only acceptable from UK or US citizens).
We do not accept - photographs which contain nudity; photographs which show violence (although self-portraits by attractive young women who have made themselves up to look like victims of violence are acceptable) (and photographs of violence against foreigners may be acceptable if taken by UK or US citizens) (and we may accept photographs of violence against fat people, though nobody has tried to post one of those, so we haven't made up our minds yet); photographs of people unless accompanied by a model release (model release not required if the person is a baby).
Simple.
My favourite from today is actually this one:
and I quite like this one too:
Let Glasgow Flourish

I like your favourite one too.
ReplyDeleteAnother simple statement for t'other place which would clarify things would be if they said:
We are not concerned with defammatory statements made unless they are made about us or our pals
I feel an occasional series of kittens-splashed-by raindrops-in-the-sunset (luckily one of them is very fat and came from south of the river) coming on for the other place....
ReplyDeleteLove your favourite too!
Today, at the other place, the thread of discussion was locked and we were told to talk about something else.
ReplyDeleteBut of course, it's not censorship, apparently
3.20 am, just back from a great night in Glasgow with chums (I had no idea there was a Brazilian bar in Argyle Street!)
ReplyDeleteSD - what you describe is hypocrisy, pure and simple.
The other place is, I still believe, a brilliant concept, but where I have a problem is with the disjoint between their PR posturing and their operating reality. Those in control and those with influence, clearly think of themselves as liberals. The reality is that they behave as reactionaries and evidence would suggest that they are censoring rather than monitoring.

Comment on my post of 13 June from yesterday.
Your shots are a bit "hard core" for my taste SD;)
ReplyDeleteWell said......
What upset me most about the little debate on the forum was how quickly a vociferous few resorted to personal insult and attack to enforce their argument. I am not quite old enough to remember "Der Kristal Nacht" ........
Can I be in your gang please ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's all very sad.........again! Totally agree with ajb.
